“Louder Than You Think” OST: 1st Pavement song in 25 Years

“Please Be Happy (For Us)”

The first new official Pavement song in more than 25 years was just released Nov 19th, along with a music video pulled directly from the SXSW-winning documentary for which it was created; “Louder Than You Think: A Lo-Fi History of Gary Young and Pavement.”

Clearly, Music had the honor of music supervising this incredibly cool documentary starting back in 2022, and we are super excited that the long-awaited soundtrack will finally be released in all formats, including vinyl (yes, you heard that right!) in January of 2026.

We have been hard at work with our friends from Independent Projects Records to get this 19-song LP full of bootlegs and rarities from both Pavement and their contemporaries in the Stockton punk scene of the late 1980s out into the world.

IPR will be doing a standard black 180 gram vinyl, along with an awesome multi-colored one, both featuring their infamously intricate letterpress packaging.

Before his passing in 2023, Gary collaborated one last time with Scott Kannberg and Steven Malkmus on a new Pavement song featured in the film. The song is called “Please Be Happy (For Us),” and it originated as an improvised ditty that Gary performed on camera. Scott and Steven then took the audio and created a track around it, and voilá! A new Pavement song was born. It’s currently available digitally everywhere, and will appear on the vinyl and CD released in January. You can see the video below, which features their puppet avatars from the movie.
